Sister Fernande Larose was born on October 17, 1928 in Saint-Henri, Lévis, P.Q. The family had moved to McCord, Saskatchewan by 1940 where she received her Education. Sr. Fernande entered in the Community of “Les Soeurs de Notre Dame d’ Auvergne” in September 1944. On August 24, 1945 she took the Religious Habit and then received her religious name “Sr. Marie Joseph” - then in August 1967 she went back to her former name. In 1971 she celebrated her 25th Anniversary and in 1996 her 50th Anniversary of Religious Life. Sr. Fernande had an extensive teaching career; she taught at Frenchville, Dollard, Meyrone, Ferland and Eastend schools until 1978. In 1978 Sr. Fernande spent a year in Spokane for a year of Religious Studies. From 1979 – 1984 Sr. Fernande came back teaching at the Ponteix School. From 1985 – 1989 Sr. Fernande took a “Sabbatical Leave” for her personal growth. In 1989 she decided to do missionary work in Guémé, diocese of Yagoua, in North Cameroon. She came back in 1992 for health reasons. She recuperated and went back for a few more years. When she came back in 2003, she started working as “Chaplain of Foyer St. Joseph’s nursing home” and stayed until 2018 where she cared for the residents and was very compassionate – one of her very special gifts towards other people. Finally she was a resident at the Foyer until her passing on May 13 2023. In summary Sr. Fernande was recognized a very good teacher everywhere she taught. She retired and served in many ways by caring and being very compassionate with the Residents at the Foyer St-Joseph in Ponteix.
