Marie Kouri Obituary

Marie Hélène Kouri (née Liboiron) passed away peacefully in the wee hours of Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at the age of 92, with family at her side. Marie was the fifth child of Adrien Liboiron and Marguerite Mercier. She was predeceased by her husband Norman, her father and mother, her brothers David and François, sisters Thérèse and Jeanne. She is survived by her sister Marie Claire and brother Jean, her children Joel (Loretta) and Michelle, her grandchildren
Marcus (Adriana), Colten, Lacie and great grand baby due to arrive in May. Marie's life was devoted to God and to her family. She was so proud of her children and grandchildren and was
anxiously awaiting the birth of her great grandchild.

When her father passed away in 1947, Marie abandoned her dream of becoming a teacher and left her studies at the University of Manitoba to return to Ponteix and help her mother attend to the family businesses and help raise Jean and Claire.

Marie had a hand in developing and organizing several community clubs. She was very active in the Catholic Women's League since its inception and was an organist at church. Fundraising had a special attraction, and twice a year she was very involved in the League's clothing sale.

She was also active in other community recreational activities, especially bowling. Education continued to be important to Marie as she organized the first kindergarten in town and became involved with the development of a public library. Her library evolved from a closet in the town hall, to a modification of the town jail, to the local liquor store. Marie was the Ponteix librarian for
decades and many children lovingly called her "Mrs. Library."

In March 2021, Marie moved to the Foyer St. Joseph in Ponteix. As luck would have it, she was able to move into the room once occupied by her beloved Uncle Tony (Tony Mercier). She saw this as a sign that "Uncle Tony was looking after her." She was so thankful for all the care and love bestowed upon her by all the staff. She loved participating in all the activities from crafts, to movies, to golf, and especially bingo! Marie used to volunteer at the Foyer as the bingo caller for many years, and it was only fitting that she spent this past year enjoying the company of her friends, sipping coffee, and hollering, BINGO!

Rest in Peace Mom, you have earned your place in the garden of heaven.
