Marie Carlson Obituary

CARLSON: Marie Ethel Alice age 88 of Ponteix, SK passed away on April 4, 2022 at Foyer St. Joseph Nursing Home. The celebration of life service was held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2022 from Notre Dame d'Auvergne Roman Catholic Church with Pastor Brad Julien and Pastor Travis Heide officiating. The interment service took place at Ponteix Cemetery. The organist was Cindy Gorrill, the eulogy was read by Travis Carlson and Erin Schmuland. The urn bearers were Ronda Carlson and Jason Carlson and the honorary pallbearers are all her grandchildren and all those who knew and loved Marie. Marie is survived by her children and grandchildren: her son Richard (Ardis) and their children Ronda with her children Emily and Garrett; and Travis (Carmene) and their children Augustin, Griffin and Sullivan; her son Lynden (Cathie) and children Jason (Angie) Brandon, Ethan, Austin, River, Gage, Conner and Aiden; Clarke; David; Kristina (Kyle) and children Serenity, Kyla and Jaidn; Evan (Kayla) and their children Jas and Link; Kara (Kyle) and their children Rowan and Banx; her daughter Barbara (Tom Rosser) and their children Sarah (Greg) Leo, Cameron, Leo and Henry; Donarae (Blain) and their children Evan, Alec and Jonah; Janice (Trent) and their children Archer and Carys; Erin (Brian) and their children Maddoc, Malcolm and Macsen; her daughter Donna (Dennis Selenski) and their daughter Ericka; her son Michael (Pat) and their children Dawn and her children Alexis and Cain; Justin and his children Kyra and Elijah; her sister-in-law Jennette Laybourne; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents Lorenzo and Alice Laybourne that she was blessed to have; her husband Eric; brothers Gordon, Roger, and Harold; her grandparents; all of her brothers and sisters-in-law; and grandson-in-law Steve Gajadhar. Marie was born in Moose Jaw, SK on July 27, 1933 and attended McKnight Country School and Q.D.S. in Regina, SK. She married the love of her life Eric on November 2, 1951 at her parents home. She worked side by side with her loving husband on the farm at Ponteix. She drove school bus and later worked as a cook at the Ponteix Union Hospital. Their first job together in married life was on a gravel crushing crew at Sundre, AB where Eric worked as a cat skinner and Marie cooked for the crew (she admitted she did not know what she was doing when she started) and they returned home to the farm in 1953. Marie belonged to the U.C.W., Royal Canadian Legion, Aneroid 50-50 Club, Vanguard Quilting Club where she spent countless hours quilting. She enjoyed going with her quilting friends to quilting retreats in Cypress Hills. Marie always had time for friends and family. Marie enjoyed meeting with friends and family for a meal at Splitters, cooking, baking, sewing, gardening, canning, making pot holders for friends, sewing quilts and hand quilting each one and gave quilts to every grandchild and great grandchild as well as numerous babies and graduates in the community. Marie made and donated many quilts and numerous bags of teddy bears to the Ronald McDonald House in Saskatoon. She enjoyed playing piano, organ, accordian, saxophone and participated in the Gospel Choir Group. She and her father spent many hours playing music together. Marie volunteered at the Foyer St. Joseph and was loved by the staff before she became a resident. Marie felt very loved and cared for by her Foyer family. Marie loved taking the ladies to Cadillac to hear the jam sessions especially to hear Denis Chenard play the fiddle. Donation's in Marie's memory may be made to the Foyer St. Joseph Nursing Home P.O.
