Ernie was born in Shaunavon on December 14, 1933, the eldest of 6, 1 brother and 4 sisters. He took his first nine years of schooling in Dollard. In June of 1948 dad accompanied his father Joseph Lemieux to Ponteix to setup the newly acquired hardware store. Shortly after the family arrived in town his new neighbor caught his eye and she soon became the love of his life. Dad and Mom were married in October of 1953. Together they had five girls. All five girls were the apple of his eye. Dad's career consisted of working along side his Dad and his brother Dick at Lemieux's Hardware Store where plumbing and heating was a big part of serving south west Saskatchewan, as well as Lemieux's Ambulance and Lemieux's Funeral. He worked for CP Rail for a while, then returned to the family business. Soon Lemieux's added the Ponteix Hotel and dad became the sole owner in 1964, eventually selling in 1978 and focused his attention to the Funeral Home, a position he took with great pride for over 65 years. He served on Town Council for approximately 20 years. Dad was an avid hockey player and loved playing for his Ponteix Penguins and made a name for himself in the Southwest Hockey Leagues. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing with his friends. Camping soon became a part of his life, with camping trips across western Canada. In 1980 Dad and Mom purchased a cabin at Cypress Hills Park where they spent a lot of time over the past 40 years. He loved traveling to the Bahamas in the winter, it was his getaway. Papa, as he was known to his great grandchildren, enjoyed watching them in their sports and was one of their biggest fans. This past year in the Foyer, Dad developed a love of birds and spent many hours watching them in the garden and through his bedroom window. Dad was hard working, loving, dedicated, and compassionate man. He was our Rock and glue that held us together. He was a son, a brother, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and dear friend. He will be deeply missed.
